Practice Management Software, Optometry/Eye Doctor/Opticians

Job ID: 36607589

Budget: £18 – £36 GBP

Opticians practice management software (PMS)

Ideal candidate
- Is within the UK, EDT/CDT time zones in the US or Europe.
- Has worked on practice managment software or is familiar with what they are (This is quite niche, and so not having this is expected)
- Not afraid to ask for guidance/clarification, but also reads and studies materials given to them.
- Is coachable/listens to the client unless logical discussion could provide a better solution. Rather than just doing things without properly understanding or blindly listening to the client.

Briefing
I work as an optometrist in the UK (aka eye doctor in USA). The current systems in the UK are VERY outdated in their UI and functionality. I want to make the most efficient but modern looking optometry PMS, for myself/close optometrist friends initially as a project, then perhaps to sell later. It will initially be a website.

How I work, and what I can help with
- I would like to work on call (via whatsapp/discord etc.) during development to make things smooth and efficient. I.e, we are on a whatsapp call while on Figma, designing the 'Diary' section of the PMS.
- For meanial tasks (coding functions which are agreed upon, or me adding to the project reference database) can be done without calling.
- Regular reviews of the project, with both parties being brutally honest but constructive.

I can design UI in Figma, and I have an comprehensive project page within notion which I can give the developer access to.

What do I want you to do?
- A website prototype of the software. I’m only interested in the electronic health record (EHR), patient details and diary aspect of the PMS for now. (If things go well, I would love to design the rest of the system.)
- Deisgn the UI, ideally in Figma
- Work on call alongside me so we work efficiently for main tasks, and alone for menial tasks.

What to expect?
I would like features such as:
- if “Diabetic” typed into patients ‘general health’ section: then the ‘recall period’ for their sight test is automatically changed to ‘1 year’ (There are many other examples for this function, but this is a basic one)
- Touchscreen friendly, modern UI (clear examples will be shown for guidance)
- Allowing lots of loadable templates/auto-fill functions.
- Allowing keyboard shortcuts
- Integrating AI (if necessary) to auto-triage px symptoms and write referral letters or comment on business analyitics etc.
These are just a few main things so you understand the scope.

Whats the scope?
Right now, just a personal project.

Ideally, we could sell this PMS to opticians in the UK or overseas. So, it should be designed to allow it to be sold i.e. legal compliance for storing medical data etc. Many PMS are modular, so we could in theory just sell the 'Diary' area, but it would be best to fully develop the PMS before sale.

Creatively, I want this to be the most efficient and easy optometry PMS ever made. For that, hardware, software and artificial intelligence is likely going to be all incoorporated and working together. This is the end goal of the business rather than the scope of this actual project, but just so a developer is aware.
