IOT DATA MAP
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Scenario
You have been asked to design a traffic surveillance system for the Police Central Communications Centre (PCCC) that monitors vehicles travelling on public roads.
The system is based on fixed roadside traffic cameras with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) software built in. These cameras are positioned at strategic junctions and locations on the road network, and capture information about each vehicle that passes including their speed against the limit.
Information from the ANPR cameras will be sent to the PCCC system in real time. Software at the PCCC needs to determine whether vehicles are speeding and trigger a fine or summons (depending on how much over the speed limit a vehicle is travelling). The PCCC needs to also detect whether a vehicle is reported as stolen, and alert a nearby police patrol car to try and intercept the vehicle.
Police patrol cars are equipped with devices that communicate with the PCCC, transmitting their current location. These devices will need to receive alerts from the PCCC concerning the location of nearby suspect and stolen vehicles.
The system also requires real time traffic reporting that will provide a green, amber or red status depending on the average speed of vehicles against the speed limit at the camera location and present it on a map.
Objectives
1. Create and present a data architecture for the PCCC that will support the following objectives.
• Captures a stream of vehicle details, speed and location from each ANPR camera and
sends it to the PCCC for processing.
• Tracks the locations of police patrol cars and communicates real—time information
about suspect vehicles to these patrol cars.
• Automates processing for generated speeding fines and summonses.
• Generates real—time traffic reports about vehicle speeds near the camera
• Stores all captured information for future analysis.
Ensure that you highlight all required data stores, the components that need to be developed to process the data and the technologies used for each.
2. Explain how you would address non-functional requirements (E.g. Security, Monitoring, etc)
3. Deliver a realistic implementation plan for the given project
Please prepare a presentation of your solution for an audience of both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be expected to answer questions on your technical approach, project delivery along with any assumptions made.
