Wearable Personal RF Shield

Budget: $250 – $750 CAD

I want a piece of wearable technology that creates a protective bubble just around my body, blocking or seriously attenuating incoming RF signals while also giving me the option to see what is trying to get through. In other words, it should both shield my own bio-signature from external probing and help me detect any active transmissions aimed at my immediate vicinity.

The environment is highly personal—think a one-meter radius wherever I move—so the solution needs to travel with me rather than sit on a desk or in a wall. Comfort, size, and battery life therefore matter almost as much as raw shielding performance.

What I imagine is a compact, self-contained module (belt clip, pendant, or similar form factor) that combines three core functions:
1. Real-time RF spectrum monitoring across common surveillance bands, with an on-device or smartphone-linked display that flags unusual spikes.
2. Adaptive or broadband RF attenuation—whether through active cancellation, resonant materials, or smart antenna tricks—to reduce power levels that actually reach my body.
3. Optional direction finding so I can walk a few steps and watch the signal strength change, giving me a clue about where it originates.

If you have experience with SDRs, miniature shielding materials, Faraday fabrics, phased-array or null-steering antennas, please outline how you would bring those tools together in a single wearable.

Deliverables
• Schematics and BOM for the shielding/detection circuitry
• Firmware or software (e.g., GNU Radio, custom mobile app) that drives the spectrum display and alert logic
• A working prototype with basic enclosure suitable for field testing
• Brief test report showing attenuation levels and detection accuracy in a typical urban RF environment

I’m happy to iterate on revisions once a proof-of-concept is demonstrated, but the first milestone is simply getting a wearable prototype that blocks and reports in real time.
