Remember, that you will need to enact a 2-D inverse fourier transform using an analogue approach. The first thing to think about is how you are going to store the data without using a digital system."

The construction of an image from received Magnetic Resonance Imaging signals requires significant signal processing. Conventionally, this is carried out in the digital domain using high-speed techniques. An initial step towards carrying out this processing using analogue techniques would be to use SPICE to derive suitable circuits. By initially using basic signal construction and spatial domain mapping techniques, SPICE is to be proven as a suitable modelling language for the problem to hand. The SPICE platform is the student’s choice; however, the freeware (and very good) LTSPICEXVII is easy to learn and use both in the Lab and at home on the Windows operating system. The first part of the project involves researching the image construction technique and the MRI technique in general. A student interested in this project is advised to have an initial search for k-space, MRI image construction and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance in the literature to make sure that he/she is confident with these concepts.
