Piezoelectric Sensor Preamp Redesign

Job ID: 40286287

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

Project Title: Miniature Piezo Preamp PCB (10mm) – Reverse Engineer & Redesign

Project Overview

I am developing a professional leak detection microphone used for plumbing diagnostics. The system uses a piezoelectric sensor to detect vibration and sound from water leaks inside pipes.

I already have a working preamp circuit, but the PCB is too large for my application. I need an experienced electronics engineer to analyze the existing design and redesign it into a much smaller PCB.

The new design must maintain similar electrical performance but reduce the physical size so it can be mounted directly on the piezo sensor and permanently sealed with epoxy resin inside a capsule.

Primary Objectives

1. Analyze or replicate the functionality of my existing piezo preamp.
2. Redesign the circuit into a very small PCB (target size ~10mm × 10mm).
3. Maintain good signal quality and low noise.
4. Optimize the design for piezoelectric sensor input.

Technical Requirements

• Designed specifically for piezoelectric sensor input
• High input impedance suitable for piezo pickup
• Low noise analog design
• Single supply operation (9V battery system)
• Small SMD components (0402 or 0603 preferred)
• Compact op-amp or JFET input stage recommended
• Minimal component count preferred
• Output signal will go to a separate main amplifier board

PCB Requirements

• Target PCB size: approximately 10mm × 10mm
• Components on ONE SIDE ONLY (top side SMT assembly)
• Bottom side must remain flat to allow mounting to the piezo sensor
• Board will be encapsulated with resin, so layout must be mechanically reliable

Connections

The board must support three wires:

V+ (power supply)
GND
Signal Output

The piezo sensor will be soldered directly to pads on the PCB.

Deliverables

The freelancer must provide the following files:

• Complete schematic
• PCB layout
• Gerber files (for PCB manufacturing)
• BOM (Bill of Materials with component values and part numbers)
• CPL / Pick-and-Place file (for automated assembly)
• Full editable project files (KiCad / Altium / EasyEDA)

The design must be ready for manufacturing and SMT assembly (for example JLCPCB or PCBWay).

Existing Design

I will provide photos and information about the current preamp so the engineer can understand the functionality and replicate the circuit behavior.

Experience Required

Experience in the following areas is highly preferred:

• Low-noise analog audio circuits
• Piezo sensors or contact microphones
• Preamp design
• Compact PCB layout

If you have designed small sensor preamps or microphone circuits before, please include examples of previous work.

Timeline and budget are open for discussion.

Thank you.
