Need Shopify Product Page Assistance

Currently using the Impulse theme (https://themes.shopify.com/themes/impulse/styles/modern).
See page referenced at bottom of message. Currently the site is showing all associated thumbnails for the product, including variant product thumbnails. Client wishes to show (1) Featured images for the product, and (2) have the variant product images and associated thumbnails ONLY display when that product is selected on the left.
For example, see this Amazon page and how the thumbnails change when the variant product is selected (https://www.amazon.com/Gildan-Mens-T-Shirt-Assortment-X-Large/dp/B09315H9L3/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=shirts&qid=1630540676&sr=8-3&th=1).
Please let me know if you have any questions. Curious if this is possible to achieve in the current them and what the cost would be to fix. I can provide more details if needed.
