Help in solving an error for a sharepoint list (excel work book)

I have a SharePoint list (excel workbook) which isn't working when sorting a column, when saving a data (update) takes a while. It shows different error messages like took too long, can't connect to the server and freezes while displaying working on and still working on prompts.
