Elegant Silk Birthday Dress
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
I'm looking for a skilled dressmaker or designer to create a semi-formal, long-length birthday dress.
Custom Evening Gown – Technical Description
This gown is a bespoke evening dress, designed for an elegant, Parisian Art-Deco–inspired occasion.
The objective is to combine sensuality, structure, and comfort, while respecting the wearer’s preference to keep the upper arm (between shoulder and elbow) covered, without concealing the shoulders.
⸻
Overall Silhouette
• Long, fitted column gown
• Emphasis on the bust and waist, with a sculpted, feminine silhouette
• Elegant, timeless look suitable for an evening in Paris
⸻
Neckline & Upper Structure
• Wide Bardot neckline band, positioned high enough to securely cover the upper arm
• Bardot band runs horizontally across the shoulders, slightly curved to follow the bust line
• Central V-shaped opening at the front, integrated into the Bardot band, creating a refined décolleté
• The Bardot band provides visual balance and structure while remaining sensual
⸻
Bust Construction
• Integrated corset structure inside the bodice:
• Light boning for support
• Built-in cups with a subtle push-up effect
• Designed to enhance the bust naturally without exaggeration
• Inner construction allows the dress to be worn without visible lingerie
⸻
Closure
• Hidden zipper closure at the back
(preferred over lace-up for comfort, elegance, and clean lines)
⸻
Sleeves / Arm Coverage
• Option C sleeves:
• Sleeveless arm opening below the Bardot band
• The Bardot band itself ensures coverage of the anatomical upper arm
• No long sleeves required, maintaining lightness and sophistication
⸻
Skirt & Slit
• Long, straight skirt
• Front slit, positioned lower than mid-thigh to ensure discretion
• Slit allows ease of movement while remaining elegant and non-revealing
Main Fabric (Outer Fabric)
Primary choice :
• Stretch crepe (high-quality)
• Color: Deep burgundy / wine
• Finish: Matte or very slightly satinized
• Weight: Medium to heavy, to ensure:
• Proper drape
• Clean vertical fall
• Good support for the corset structure
• Stretch: Two-way stretch (comfort + sculpting)
Why this fabric:
• Elegant and timeless
• Holds structure without stiffness
• Ideal for fitted evening gowns with corsetry
• Does not mark lingerie or boning
Alternative (if unavailable):
• Stretch satin (heavy), matte side outward
(only if the shine remains discreet)
⸻
Bardot Band Fabric (Upper Band)
Two validated options (to choose with the atelier):
Option A – Continuous elegance
• Same stretch crepe as the body
• Clean, architectural look
• Perfect for a minimalist couture finish
Option B – Couture highlight
• Burgundy sequined or lightly beaded fabric
• Small, dense sequins (not large or flashy)
• Same color family as the dress
• Used only on the Bardot band
This option creates contrast and elevates the dress without overwhelming it.
⸻
Lining (Inner Fabric)
Required choice :
• Satin lining or silk-blend satin
• Color: Champagne / light ivory
• Finish: Smooth, fluid, non-textured
• Weight: Medium-light
Not fleece
Not cotton twill
Not suede-touch or microfiber
Why:
• Comfortable on skin
• Allows the dress to slide easily over the body
• Breathable and appropriate for an evening gown
• Consistent with couture standards
⸻
Internal Structure (Underlining & Support)
• Light fusible interfacing in bodice area
• Integrated corset lining:
• Boning channels
• Built-in cups
• No visible internal elements from the outside
Please provide examples of previous work and an estimated timeline. Thank you!
