I Need a Server Set Up

I work for a small company in Lewes and we have attempted to set up a shared server for us in the workshop and failed miserably. We would like to have all four of our laptops joining to a computer (who we have called Frank), so that we can all access the same files. We have tried to use our old wifi box as a switch but we could not work it out. We are thinking that we may need an Ethernet Switch and some Crossover Ethernet Cables, however, we need someone who knows what they are doing to help us finish this job. Currently we’re accessing the internet through next doors wireless hub (yes they know ). As such don’t want Frank connected to that so we want a separate ‘network’ to frank. We’ll all (four windows laptops) want to connect to Frank via ethernet. So need something we can plug into Frank that the three laptops can plug into too. Basically so we have a shared drive. Frank doesn’t need to connect to the internet.
