WordPress Multilingual Integration for Cantonese
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Project Overview
We want to add a new language, Cantonese (Traditional Chinese), to our WordPress website. We already have Japanese pages. We will handle all translation work (writing/translation), so we need a freelancer to implement the multilingual setup, configure the site structure, ensure proper display/SEO setup, and perform QA.
Goals
* Add Cantonese (Traditional Chinese) pages and enable users to switch languages
* Use the existing Japanese page structure and publish Cantonese pages at the same quality level
* Correctly set up multilingual SEO (e.g., hreflang) as much as possible
Scope of Work (Required)
1. Implement WordPress multilingual setup
* Add language: Japanese → Japanese + Cantonese (Traditional Chinese)
* Add a language switcher (e.g., in header; must work on mobile)
* Duplicate existing Japanese pages to create Cantonese page “containers” (draft/published)
*We will provide translated text; we need a workflow where we can paste/replace content easily*
2. Propose and implement URL structure (one of the following)
* Example: /ja/ and /yue/ or /zh-hk/, etc.
* Please propose the best option considering our existing URLs
3. Basic SEO / indexing configuration
* hreflang, canonical, sitemap handling (depending on the plugin)
* Suggest a noindex strategy to avoid duplicate content during drafting
4. QA (pre-launch checks)
* Layout issues, links, forms, menus, and mobile view
* Language switcher and navigation checks
Scope of Work (Nice to Have)
* Optimize caching for multilingual pages
* Provide a simple 1-page operational guide for our internal “paste translations” workflow
Preferred Skills
* Proven experience implementing multilingual WordPress sites (WPML / Polylang / TranslatePress, etc.)
* Ability to recommend the best plugin for our environment (new install or integrate with existing setup)
* Basic SEO knowledge (hreflang, canonical, indexing control)
What We Provide
* WordPress admin access (as needed)
* Cantonese (Traditional Chinese) translated text (prepared by us)
* List of target pages (which pages to start with)
Estimated Timeline
* Initial setup: 3–7 days (negotiable)
* Content application + final QA: a few additional days (negotiable)
When Applying, Please Include (Required)
1. Your experience with multilingual WordPress projects (links or brief summary)
2. Your recommended plugin (WPML/Polylang/etc.) and why
3. Your proposed URL structure (/yue/ or /zh-hk/, etc.) and your reasoning
4. Your planned steps and quotation (fixed price or hourly; estimated hours)
Notes
* We will do all translation/content writing.
* We value a setup that is scalable for adding more languages in the future.
* Before starting, please review our current site briefly (theme/plugins/cache/SEO plugin) and confirm any constraints.
