Google My Business Back Linking

I am in need of a freelancer who can assist me with a Google My Business back linking project in my Google account. The main goal of this project is simply to improve search engine rankings for my website and increase traffic to the website. I am led to believe that Google my business (GMB) has to be setup properly and maintained. While this is setup, I am advised the current back links are either missing or poor.
- The website is a wordpress based site
- The website SEO is fine or its at least getting better and this is managed by me
- The GMB account is what needs attention at this time I am led to believe
- I paid someone on this site a while ago to do this and they did a POOR job and created back links in my GMB account to toy shops and all sorts of other totally unrelated rubbish websites. I am led to believe by Google and others that the back links have to be quality back links that relate to the type of business I do. I am happy to be proven wrong however this is what I have been told. I cant see the point back linking to a toy shop when my company sells scientific and environmental monitoring equipment

The job is quite simple and is not rocket science however I need someone who believes they can provide suitable quality back links and enough of them to make a measurable difference and improvement to our website ranking. I am open to suggestions.
