Smart Cart Navigation System
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m building a motorized smart cart system that can autonomously return to a docking zone after use. I’m looking for an experienced engineer to help design the entire navigation and control system, including:
Autonomous movement
Return-to-home logic
Cart docking alignment
Boundary sensing and alert
Electronics architecture and component selection
This is for a real-world prototype, not a simulation.
---
What I Need from You:
Software Requirements:
1. Return-to-Home Navigation
Cart should autonomously return to a pre-defined home position.
Can use path-following (QR, line, beacons) or basic SLAM if cost allows.
2. Auto-Docking Behavior
Align precisely with existing cart queue.
If no carts are docked, align to the charging station.
3. Boundary Alert System
Detect when the cart is close to predefined boundaries (e.g., store exit or parking edge).
Trigger sound/visual alert to instruct user to leave the cart.
4. Obstacle Avoidance (Basic)
Avoid collisions with people or carts while returning.
Hardware & Electronics Support:
Recommend microcontroller or SBC (e.g., Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano).
Help me select and integrate:
Motors + motor drivers (I'll provide specs of cart + wheel unit)
IR/Ultrasonic/LiDAR sensors for navigation
Buzzer/speaker for alerts
Basic LED display and button input (for user interaction)
Deliverables:
Wiring diagram / block diagram of electronics architecture
Complete navigation software codebase (well-commented)
Sensor and component BOM (with budget in mind)
Deployment instructions (for prototype testing)
Optional: ROS or Python/C++ based framework
