Custom Ground Control Station (GCS) Development

Job ID: 39933671

Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 USD

We are seeking an experienced software developer or robotics engineer to build a custom Ground Control Station (GCS) application compatible with both BlueBoat and BlueROV2 platforms and built for MacBook Pro and ALS for IOS iPhone use. The application should integrate camera feeds, sonar visualization, and additional sensor data (e.g., GPS, IMU, water quality sensors) into a unified, intuitive interface.

This GCS will serve as the central command system for mission planning, real-time monitoring, and data logging of autonomous and remotely operated marine systems.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop a cross-platform GCS interface (Windows/Linux/macOS preferred).
• Integrate communication with BlueOS and ArduPilot systems over MAVLink.
• Implement live video and sonar streaming from onboard devices.
• Visualize multiple sensor inputs (depth, GPS, IMU, environmental sensors).
• Enable mission planning and telemetry mapping (e.g., waypoint navigation, data overlays).
• Provide real-time alerts and data logging for post-mission review.
• Ensure modular architecture for adding future sensors or payloads.
• Optimize for use with BlueBoat (surface) and BlueROV2 (subsea) simultaneously.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
• Strong background in robotics or unmanned vehicle software development.
• Experience with MAVLink, BlueOS, QGroundControl, or ArduSub/ArduPilot.
• Proficient in Python, C++, or Qt/QML GUI development.
• Familiar with ROS/ROS2 integration for sensor fusion and data handling.
• Experience with video streaming (GStreamer, RTSP, or similar).
• Familiarity with marine sensors (sonar, DVL, GPS, depth, CTD, etc.) is a plus.
• Understanding of networked communication protocols (UDP/TCP).

Deliverables:
• Fully functional GCS application supporting both BlueBoat and BlueROV2.
• GUI interface with customizable dashboard views.
• Live video, sonar, and telemetry integration.
• Mission planning and playback functionality.
• Source code and documentation for continued development.

Bonus (Nice to Have):
• Experience working with Blue Robotics hardware.
• Ability to integrate custom sensor plugins (water quality, nutrient sensors, etc.).
• Cross-device synchronization for dual-surface/subsurface control.
