I’m building a new farmhouse that will function first and foremost as an agricultural hub, so it has to be tough enough for daily farm work yet gentle on the land that supports it. To achieve that, I need a civil engineer who can weave sustainability into every stage of the design.
Core requirements
• Integrate solar energy—size and position the photovoltaic array so it meets most, if not all, operational demand.
• Capture and store rainwater for irrigation and wash-down; include cistern sizing, filtration, and gravity-fed distribution where practical.
• Specify recycled or reclaimed materials wherever structure and code allow, detailing sources and performance characteristics.
Deliverables
1. Site analysis and conceptual layout that optimises natural light, ventilation, and workflow for agricultural operations.
2. Full civil, structural, and utility drawings ready for local permitting (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, or similar).
