Windows Productivity Tracker Development

I need a Windows-only desktop application that quietly records how long each program stays active on an employee’s screen, captures the screen in near real-time, and then turns that raw data into clear working-hour, break-interval, and idle-time summaries. Breaks must be detected automatically from keyboard-and-mouse inactivity, without asking the user to click “Start” or “Stop”.
Core flow
• App launches on system start-up, runs unobtrusively, and stores data locally in an encrypted format.
• When network connectivity is present, it should be able to upload the logs and image snippets to our existing server endpoint (REST or WebSocket—happy to follow your recommendation).
• A lightweight dashboard is needed for managers to review daily and weekly totals, see the captured screenshots, and export CSV reports.
Key features I must see working
• Real-time screen capturing (configurable interval, e.g., 30 sec).
• Accurate application usage tracking by active window title/process.
• Automatic break detection based on user inactivity thresholds.
• Clear calculation of total work hours, break time, and non-productive time.
Deliverables
1. Windows installer (.msi or .exe) and signed executable.
2. Source code with build instructions (C#, Electron, or another stack you propose).
3. Setup script/database schema for the server side of the log & image storage.
4. Brief user guide plus technical documentation.
I will test by installing the app on a clean Windows 11 machine: if it logs active applications, picks up breaks without manual input, and pushes data to the server while the dashboard displays matching numbers, the milestone is complete. Looking forward to your proposed tech stack and timeline.
