Budget: $10 – $30 USD
The purpose of this paper is to profile an organization, which has experienced a security breach to serve as the basis for both an examination of what took place (the breach itself) and the resulting aftermath (the fallout for both the organization and beyond). You may choose to profile an organization in any industry or based out of any country, providing there is enough publicly available information to do so. Students may also choose an organization they work for, providing they do not disclose any confidential company information during the course of this project.
Tasks:
There are 5 major tasks to be accomplished:
1. Students are to select an organization of their own choosing - Do your research, they must have had a security breach recently or some time in the past!
2. With the organization selected, the following information should be researched:
a. Company Background – Who are they, where they came from, industry they belong to, products and/or services offered etc. Ensure the reader is familiar with your organization.
b. Discussion of events around the organization's security breach – research current/past news around the organization – What happened? What were the consequences - for the organization and/or the public in general? Any additional relevant information – Discuss things such as what laws, rules or regulations might affect this business in the future resulting from this data breach.
c. In the future other organizations may be at risk for similar security breaches. Discuss 3 steps other organizations can take to limit their future risk to this type of breach. Be specific!
