A 29-year-old pregnant woman presented to the Emergency Department with generalised body swelling, severe headaches and loss of consciousness. At presentation, the gestational age was 30 weeks, her blood pressure was 168/105 mmHg and urinalysis revealed protein (+++) and nitrite (+) in urine. She had not consistently attended her antennal clinic, and this was her first pregnancy. She has a family history of hypertension, but her blood pressure was normal when it was measured 12 months ago.
1. Evaluate the clinical presentation of this patient and suggest the most likely diagnosis. (20%)
2. Discuss the epidemiology, aetiology and pathogenesis of the disease suggested as your likely diagnosis. (30%)
3. Describe how this disorder is diagnosed including the various diagnostic tests available. (15%)
