Writer Wanted for Australian Crime Stories

Job ID: 39822066

Budget: $750 – $1,500 AUD

MUST BE AUSTRALIAN OR HAVE LIVED IN AUSTRALIA FOR A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME.

I run a weekly podcast called Australian Crime Stories, and I’m looking for a freelance writer to help research and script episodes.

About the Show:
- Currently 15 episodes in and showing great potential.
- New episode every week.
- Each episode runs around 30 minutes, written to be concise and engaging.
- Episodes are supported by sound design (SFX, minimal music) to create atmosphere, so scripts need to be narrative-driven and listener-focused.

About the Role:
- You will be required to effectively research an Australian crime and formulate it into a narrative at at aprox 4000 words.
- Expect to spend between 3-5 days per episode depending on the research depth.
- Turnaround is fairly flexible (1-3 weeks), but the deadline must be determined alongside confirmation of episode so that it can be scheduled appropriately

Pay StructureL
- Base rate is AUD $750 per episode.
- If the episode surpasses 10,000 streams within its first 30 days, there is a performance bonus of AUD $150

How It Works
- You’ll start with a pre-determined episode as your first project (e.g. The Claremont Killings).
- If both sides are happy, you’ll be able to work on future episodes in a more collaborative manner (choosing the crimes and suggesting improvements for the show)
- Ongoing commitment is flexible — you can take on as many or as few episodes as you’d like.

What I’m Looking For
- Someone with a passion for writing and getting their stories listened to.
- Capable and sufficient at online research.
- An interest in true crime or Australian stories (we have other shows coming up like History, Ghost and Mystery)
- Proof of strong writing skills.
