Stock price chart anomaly research

Job ID: 34872263

Budget: $2 – $8 USD

I am looking for people to research the reason behind discontinuities in stock charts. A discontinuity occurs when the price of a stock suddenly changes by a significant amount. Often this is caused by a stock split or large dividend payout, but other times it is caused by news about the company that produces a rapid "organic" price change. Other times, this may be some kind of "price glitch" in the stock's price data recorded by websites displaying a crazy price for a given day that the stock never actually traded at. Distinguishing these cases requires research, usually by looking at various websites that report stock price histories (eg Yahoo Finance) and possibly news stories.
I have a large set of US stocks exhibiting such discontinuities and wish to know the reason for each discontinuity. I can provide the company name, its ticker symbol, and the date and magnitude of the price change. Your job is to find the reason for the discontinuity and to record it in an Excel spreadsheet with one row per event containing this information: <ticker> <date> <event type> <event value (eg amount of the dividend, stock split ratio, etc)> <comments>
