Research Paper

Research Paper: Topic: Developmental Psychology and a Movie Character
You are required to write an 800-word paper (at a minimum of 800 and no more than 1000 words) in APA style (7th edition). In preparation for the paper, you are asked to pick a developmental stage, read the textbook chapter about that stage, watch a movie with a character who is at that developmental stage, and observe developmental phenomena of the character in that movie. You are then to write a paper with a focus on comparing developmental psychological research and theory with your observations about the movie character’s developmental processes and issues. Please note that the assignment is not to summarize a movie, but to present and describe research. Short summaries of observations from the movie character should be used to illustrate concepts, theories, and research findings from the developmental psychology literature.
For example, you might choose to focus your paper on adolescence. You would then read the Adolescence chapter in your textbook and watch a movie that features an adolescent character. While watching, you would look out for and take notes on adolescent developmental issues. In your paper, you would then present relevant concepts, theories, and research findings from the developmental psychology literature (from the textbook) and compare and contrast these with short and succinct examples taken from your observations from the movie.
• If your movie character had significant conflict with parents, you would present research, theories, and concepts from the textbook about adolescent-parent conflict. Then give brief examples about how the movie portrayal of this conflict compares and contrasts with research.
• If substance use is portrayed in the movie, you would describe research, theories, and concepts from the textbook about substance use. Then briefly compare and contrast this with how these issues are portrayed in the movie.
You are asked to describe at least 4-5 developmental issues, theories, research findings, or concepts and compare these with character’s experience. Make sure to familiarize yourself with how to cite and reference the movie. Include an in-text citation (of the movie) when first introducing the movie character in the introduction.
In addition to drawing on the research presented in the textbook, you must use, cite, and reference 2 peer-reviewed academic journal articles that are relevant to your character’s development in addition to the research you take from your textbook. Do not include information from websites or other non-academic sources (like magazines, newspapers, or videos) in your paper. Please provide a wordcount before the reference section (the word count should not include the reference section).
The research paper scoring criteria are as follows:
• Completeness: effective and comprehensive use of source materials:
• Integration: of findings from the observation and research information:
• Writing: clear written expression (including grammar, punctuation, and spelling)
• Paper Organization: clear paper structure, argumentation, and logical flow
• APA style 7th edition: implementation of APA style
Once I've selected a freelancer to assist me with this, I'll give you access to my textbook and together select a movie to base the paper on.
