Write a formal research paper on a research question of your choice. Choose a new research topic/question, and expand that into a research paper. It should include at least 2 research sources* in your research paper. (*Note: a research source does not have to be a journal article, but it should be from reputable source - not Wikipedia, blog posts/comments. Reputable sources can include some websites, books, journals/magazines, documentaries, newspapers. )
Your research essay should include the following sections:
· 1. Introduction (includes hook, background Information, thesis): Your introduction should identify what your topic is, what your central research questions are, and outline the key arguments that your paper goes on to discuss. Include your thesis statement in your introduction.
o Your thesis statement is a summary of your research on the topic and answers your research question: Your thesis should address one of the following: What can you say with some certainty about this topic having done your research. Are you for or against this issue and why? What is the problem that you are addressing, and what potential solutions did you uncover in your research? What is the cause(s) and/or effect(s) of this issue?
Sample Thesis:
Postsecondary students face a high level of stress, which as been associated with higher than average levels of depression and anxiety (Stewart et al.). Recent studies have suggested a multi-pronged approach to treat student stress, including use of physical activity, psychological therapies, and medications.
· 2. Research Findings: Summarize 2 or more findings from your research on the topic. Be sure to properly cite your sources properly when presenting evidence. Use signal phrases when introducing your sources (Ex. Smith et al. argue that . . .). Use direct quotations and paraphrase to communicate the main research findings.

3. Personal Discussion/Reflections: Reflect on the research findings and discuss the larger significance of these findings. You can address how or if your opinions on this topic were altered after the research you did. Did your initial opinion/argument about this issue change after your research or did your initial feelings about the issue remain unchanged? Comment on the insights you’ve gained and how this issue affects you, your peers, or your community more generally.
· 4. Conclusion: Use your conclusion paragraph to briefly summarize your thesis and main research findings. You can address any further questions that remain unanswered or areas of further inquiry.


· 5. Works Cited page in MLA style: includes all of the sources that you used in the essay.
