Online Research Assistant - New Technologies

Job ID: 32952731

Budget: $10 – $30 AUD

We have an ongoing need to evaluate the current performance and future potential of new technologies in fields such as cybersecurity, robotic process automation, data science, computer networking, hybrid cloud, and other such areas. Focuses can be on whether the technology will be attractive to customers, whether investors will be willing to invest, and competitive benchmarking seeking to see whether their technology is as good as competitor technologies.

This role will be within our Research Library team which responds to internal and external requests for specialist research. Our Research Library operates as a quick response team, preparing quick notes taking minutes to create which can be used to guide a conversation and not as a typical Research Library which may produce a long research paper taking days to create. This role will involve using template answers and then expanding on the template response to suit the particular question being asked.

Our Research Librarian gets around 50 Brief Research Requests a day and around 10 Detailed Research Requests per day. Our Research Librarian has multiple academic degrees, an eidetic memory, and decades of experience. As a result, the Research Librarian can often begin answering difficult questions within minutes given the option to rely on prior memory which is refreshed by specific talking points on the given topic. Our challenge is that the Research Librarian is often in follow-up research meetings (i.e. hour long meetings answering questions using the bullet point preparation materials) and we need to build more capacity so the Research Librarian can focus on the most difficult work (i.e. presenting and answering live questions) and stop spending time on routine work (i.e. preparing the Brief Research Request summaries, Detailed Research Request talking points).

In sourcing data, the ideal candidate will be familiar with specialist technology industry research (eg Gartner, Forrester), startup databases (eg Crunchbase, Pitchbook, Dealroom), online review sites (eg G2 Crowd, Gartner Peer Insights), public filings (eg SEC 10k filings), news databases (eg Factiva), online analysis tools (eg SEMRush), social media (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter), and popular forums (eg Reddit, Quora, StackOverflow, Blind, Glassdoor, Fishbowl).

Work will need to be conducted in a secure environment which will be supplied to you via a Remote Desktop connection.
