Music Effect on Bean Plant Growth
Budget: ₹600 – ₹1,500 INR
This project investigates the hypothesis that different types of music—specifically classical, rock, and no music (control)—have a measurable impact on the growth rate of common bean plants (\textit{Phaseolus vulgaris}) over a four-week period. Three identical groups of five bean plants each (a total of \text{15} plants) will be grown in a controlled environment, ensuring all variables such as soil type, pot size, amount of water, and daily exposure to light remain constant.
Group A (Classical Music): Will be exposed to \text{4} hours of instrumental classical music (e.g., Mozart or Bach) daily, played at a consistent, moderate decibel level (\text{60-70} dB).
Group B (Rock Music): Will be exposed to \text{4} hours of uptempo rock music (e.g., popular rock songs with a strong beat) daily, played at the same consistent decibel level (\text{60-70} dB).
Group C (Control): Will be kept in a silent environment with no music exposure.
Data will be collected daily, recording the height of the plant (in centimeters) from the soil line to the highest growth point, and observing the number and size of leaves. At the end of the four-week period, the average growth across each group will be calculated and compared to determine which environment, if any, promoted the most significant growth. The results will be presented using bar graphs to visually illustrate the final average height for each music group. The student expects to find that the classical music group will show the most positive growth compared to the control group, while the rock music group may show inhibited growth.
