Middle Ages Global Cultures Article
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
I’m commissioning a feature-length magazine article (roughly 3,000–4,000 words) that brings to life the cultural, social worlds, developments, and interesting things of the Middle Ages everywhere except Western Europe, as the latter is highly associated with the middle ages, so putting the light on other places would be great for a later comparison to the general discourse around middle ages. My readership is the general public, so the tone must be vivid, story-driven, and jargon-free while remaining historically accurate and well-sourced.
Scope
• Skip Western Europe; the goal is to spotlight societies that mainstream narratives often overlook.
• Time frame: roughly 500–1500 CE, but you may adjust slightly when a culture’s medieval period starts or ends later.
Deliverables
1. Magazine-style article (Word or Google Doc) with engaging sub-headings and pull-quote suggestions.
2. 3–5 sidebar ideas (e.g., “How Islamic coffeehouses fostered debate”, “hospital hygienge in the arab countries in the middle ages”, etc.).
3. List of rights-cleared image suggestions with captions.
4. Short bibliography of reputable, preferably recent, sources. + reliable references.
Acceptance criteria
• Writing is original, fact-checked, and suitable for a lay audience.
• Narrative flows logically across regions without feeling like a textbook survey.
• Each culture receives balanced coverage of its social and cultural life.
