Leadership -- 2
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
Assignment structure and format The purpose of this presentation is to present a critical evaluation of relevant change(s) in an organisation of your choice and consider how it could have been improved. In order to do this, you will use material from all 12 weeks and consider the factors leading up to the change (i.e. why the change occurred); factors during the change (i.e. how the change occurred); and factors after the change (i.e. what happened next). You can add other literature if you wish, however this must also be fully justified and explained using appropriate academic underpinning. This analysis will form the basis of a 6 – 8 slide (excluding references) PowerPoint presentation along with annotated notes using the note page. You have a maximum of 350 words per slide.
Remember to include the size, location, service/production orientation and if relevant which particular aspects of the organisation you are going to consider. For example, if Virgin was your chosen organisation you might decide to focus on Virgin Airlines or Virgin Media or the organisation as a whole. Whatever you do there must be rationale for it.
In general, the presentations will have the following type of content
1) Introduction, explaining the point and structure of the presentation, making clear any contextual information your audience needs to understand.
2) Overview of the context. Explain the size, ownership (private, public, voluntary) service/production orientation which element of the organisation is being focused on etc. Only include information that is relevant for understanding the context. Explain the change that occurred and it’s impact (if known) on the organisation.
3) Analysis of the change. This should brief analysis of what caused the organisation to make the change as well as as analysis that identifies the impact of the change. Consider if the change was handled appropriately/effectively? Has the impact been as expected? Have there been unforeseen issues that have arisen?
4) Solutions – What should the organisation do to make the change even better/more embedded/get the outcomes they want? Where possible, include a discussion of the practical considerations of your discussion. Will there be a cost? Does your answer involve job loss or culture change? How will this be perceived by employees? What would your practically do to negate any negative effects?
5) Conclusion – Draw together the main ideas from the presentation, and present them as a succinct coherent whole. Do not introduce new ideas in your conclusion
