The company has recently implemented new and advanced production/operations management processes to design and build its latest models, thus maintaining a competitive advantage in the aerospace industry. For example, one of Boeing's most promising projects in recent decades was the construction of the 787 Dreamliner. This program was designed to be one of the most innovative within the company's portfolio. It used cutting-edge technologies, such as composite materials, and a "built to performance" strategy for the first time among its partners to build the aircraft. Consequently, airlines were advertised a plane that would be stronger, lighter, and could carry more passengers, consume less fuel and fly farther. However, some of Boeing's Operational Management (OM) decisions during the 787 Dreamliner program could have been better. As a result, the company faced many challenges that delayed entry into service and even jeopardized its continuation. This investigation will analyze how Boeing implemented the 10 OM decisions discussed in the textbook in order to complete the Dreamliner project and their impact.
