RESEARCH QUESTION: Do European countries punish similar crimes more punitively than does the United States DV: Severity of sentencing IV: Type of crime committed MODERATING VARIABLE Whether the crime was committed in the US or the EU.
HYPOTHESIS: Courts in EU countries will, on average, issue significantly less harsh sentences than US courts for highly similar crimes. Above is what I think you were going for. If I am right, then you should feel free to copy n paste and submit it so that I can approve it (well, you should change the hypothesis IF you believe the relationship is probably different)... but you'll want to be sure to consult with me as needed over the rest of the term if you think you could use some help on this assignment.
DEPENDENT VARIABLE - How American crimes are prosecuted ( won/lost) compared to European crimes. Degree of severity of punishment towards criminals.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE- Courts in EU countries will, on average, issue significantly less harsh sentences than US courts for highly similar crimes.
THE DEPENDENT VARIABLE- shows the statistics on how one specific crime is drastically portrayed differently in each country and the independent shows how both countries tried to change a specific law and the outcome of the situation. ( Degree of severity of punishment towards criminals in given locations )
