Job ID: 33317908

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Select one of the prompts below and write an essay in response.
The essay must be 6-8 paragraphs in length, have a clear thesis statement, and be well developed with general analysis about how authors use the elements of fiction and support from the readings to qualify your thesis.
You can only use 3-4 total quotes in the essay, and these must come from a minimum of 2 short stories. You can use 3, but 2 different short stories is the minimum.
The essay must also have an introduction and conclusion and be a persuasive (argument) piece of writing, not a regurgitation of the readings.
You need to consider the various elements of fiction; take into consideration plot, language, dialogue, setting, imagery, symbolism, etc.
You should also consider the era in which the piece was written, as well as societal constructs that period in history.
The essay must show critical thinking.
Read the prompt you select carefully.
Again, do not summarize or focus solely on the texts/short stories. Avoid writing in first and second person. The essay must be in MLA format and include titles in quotation marks, page numbers, and parenthetical in-text citations. A Works Cited page is not needed.

1. Self-actualization is something most human beings strive for. To be able to realize one's full potential can lead to a rewarding life. History has shown how certain groups of people are not allowed to become self-actualized because of either their gender or socioeconomic standing. How do authors address and develop the concept of denial of self-actualization through the medium of fiction? Use support from: “The Story of an Hour”, “The Metamorphosis”, and/or “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

2. Denial and delusion are powerful human traits that some use as a tool for survival. These traits allow people to carry on in otherwise difficult or seemingly impossible situations. Many authors shed light on how limiting and crushing denial and delusion can be to people. Analyze and argue the way authors use fiction as a means to reveal how denial and delusion limit the development of a person? Use analysis of authors in general and use examples from: "This Is What it Means to Say Pheonix, Arizona", "The Yellow Wallpaper", and/or "The Things They Carried".

3. Culture can influence the way people view certain aspects in society. Power within a culture can be used for control, and this can affect the way people think and act. Authors use fiction in various ways to address the power found within a culture and the various affects caused by the control associated with this power. Argue the way authors use the elements of fiction to convey a message about the way power in a culture may affect one's thoughts and actions. Use analysis about authors in general and use examples from "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings", "This Is What it Means to Say Pheonix, Arizona", and/or "The Metamorphosis"
