Urban Environment Detailed Analysis
Budget: €8 – €30 EUR
The essay should be between 3,000-3,500 words long (not including references). Given the topics
covered in this course your essay could address a specific topic and illustrate this in a selection of cities
or take a specific city and examine its environment in detail.
For example:
1. Select a topic (e.g. air quality, urban design, 15-minute city, risk, climate change) and examine
this for cities regionally or globally.
2. Select a city (e.g. Cairo, Miami) and describe aspects of its built environment in respect to
related topics such as climate change, mitigation and adaptation metabolism, risk
management, climate such as hazards and their management.
3. An urban project on a city using geospatial techniques (GIS and/or remote sensing) or
fieldwork that evaluates some aspect of the urban environment, such as climate change
adaptation or sustainable urban design.
The essay must be properly referenced in the Harvard style (e.g. Douglas, 1983; Ningal et al., 2010).

websites and newspapers of course but these are not necessarily an authoritative source of
