Your final in this course is an original research paper investigating a social problem of your choosing. In this paper, you must address the following aspects of your problem:
What sociological causes and explanations have been linked to this problem? Incorporate/apply sociological theoretical perspectives.
What social factors (structural, cultural, interactional, political, etc.) contribute to the existence of the problem?
What do sociologists or other experts believe may be potential solutions to this problem?
Your paper must meet the following requirements:
must be 5-8 pages, double spaced, size 12 Times New Roman font (title pages are not included in the page requirements)
must be submitted in .doc, .docx, or PDF format
must cite a minimum of three (3) scholarly sources*
must include a reference page in APA format.
Homelessness has increased in more recent times due to the increase in rent prices, and even mortgages. Although this is one factor, I will explore other factors of this social problem like the mental health aspect, or even the physical health aspect that may cause a person to become homeless. This can, in turn, can be due to the price of health insurance, and deductibles. Therefore when a person can not afford the proper care, it can become a serious hazardous disaster for their lives, and many others. When they cannot get the proper care they turn to alternative methods, like drug and alcohol use. So, I will start by investigating mental health care, or lack of then move to the alternative coping mechanism that can cause a person to be homeless.
Therefore, I believe this is a social problem, and meets the criteria of a social problem because it is negative consequences for a large number of people. The consequence is that homeless people experience more than just having no house, but rather more mental, and physical problems. This consequence needs to be addressed due to the impact that it has on people who experience homelessness, their families, and even bystanders.
