Dear Sir or Madam: My mother immigrated to the United States from the Republic of Colombia, South America. She ultimately became a successful businesswoman and real estate, investor. I worked very closely with her in these ventures and I was ALWAYS the first person she turned to with any kind of problem, whether it was personal, family-related, emotional, or financial. I know for a fact that my mother trusted me and confided in me to a much greater extent than she did in my two siblings.
In addition to these personal tactics, Jacqueline took absolute control over my mother's bank accounts at local branches of Chase Bank and Wells Fargo Bank and over her real estate holdings and other assets. My sister removed the name of Libia Rojas from the various bank accounts although my mother specifically stated that she wanted to remain as the primary account-holder. In view of the fact that my mother was not fluent in English, Jacqueline would tell the bank managers in person and online to remove Libia's name from the different accounts and would then lie to my mother about her actions. My sister also wrote and signed checks from the accounts and retained the money for herself and my mom would have absolutely no understanding of what was taking place against her wishes.
Libia Rojas had always been a very strong and energetic woman who was quite able and competent to manage her personal and financial affairs and she was in relatively good health for her age. However, after she was placed under the dominating and cruel control of my sister, she totally changed. Libia became weak, isolated, confused, and depressed, the total opposite of the way that she had always been. She lost interest in the activities that she used to love and Jacqueline became my mother's dictator, certainly not a loving and caring daughter. Although there was no evidence that Jacqueline ever physically harmed or abused my mother, there is no doubt that she clearly abused and harmed my mother mentally and emotionally to the point that I think such treatment was a contributing factor to her untimely death on March 16, 2021.
Following mom's passing, Jacqueline immediately closed her bank accounts, grabbed all of her valuable possessions, banned my brother and me from her home, sold her condominium unit, and refused to disclose to the rest of the family what she was doing. From a legal standpoint, I must emphasize that Jacqueline was never appointed as her Executor, Administrator, or Guardian by a court of law, but my sister assumed such responsibilities without any official or legitimate authority.
For your information, the disposition of the Libia Rojas Estate is currently pending in a legal proceeding before the Circuit Court of the 17th Judicial District for Broward County and I realize that this is now an official judicial matter. But to this day, Jacqueline's mistreatment of Libia Rojas continues to haunt me and in my mom's memory,
Sincerely,
Carlos Enrique Rojas
