Imagine that you have just been elected a T.D. or Senator in the Oireachtas. Your first priority is to propose a new bill which will change the law in an area entirely of your own choosing. The proposed law may be quite broad in nature, affecting many people, or quite a small reform that would make a difference to only a particular section of the population.
Your task is to provide an overview of the key aspects of this bill.
Your answer should outline how your proposed bill will differ from the already existing law, give examples of hypothetical scenarios of how the bill would work in practice and provide examples of similar laws that are in place or have been proposed in other countries. Your answer should outline the arguments you will make in favour of your proposed bill and also note the arguments you anticipate will be made in opposition to it, giving an overview of how you will respond to those. Your answer should additionally comment upon what impact this proposed bill would have, if any, upon the creative industries.
Guidelines: The essay should be between 1,600 and 2,000 words. It must be fully cited and referenced. References are excluded from the word count.
