Grant writing Proposal
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
WHAT YOUR PROPOSAL SHOULD INCLUDE
1. Subject - your proposal can be on any topic. It should be on the grant idea you worked on
from the start of this class, but it can be one totally made up by you.
2. Elements of the proposal - your proposal should be prepared exactly following the format
below with each heading labeled and bolded.
A. Title page or cover letter (you do not need both) should include these items all on the
front page of the proposal:
- project title
- starting and ending dates (normally for a one year period unless justified longer
timeframe)
- your name, address, phone number (use 585-395-5555) as the person submitting the
proposal and as Project Director
- amount of money requested
- your signature (you will have to make the proposal a PDF to submit signed)
- what source you would submit the proposal to: government, foundation, corporation
B. Problem statement or need Statement
C. Solution
D. Brief background of your non-profit organization (its history, purpose, credibility).
E. Goal(s)
F. Objectives
G. Activities/methods to carry out project
H. Timetable for implementing activities (this can be done using the chart distributed
in class or just using dates).
I. Program evaluation
J. Qualifications of staff
K. Sustainability Plan
L. Budget request (one paragraph summary)
M. On the last page provide an itemized budget breakdown (maximum of one page).
N. You can provide up to five pages in an appendix if you wish (not required). This could
include a resume, letter(s) of commitment, newspaper article, etc.(DOES NOT
SATISFY THE NARRATIVE PAGE REQUIREMENTS)
