We have a rapidly growing youth center located in Minnesota.
The mission of The Wave Youth Center is to work in partnership with the community to meet the needs of the body, mind, and spirit of the youth in our community, by offering support and mentoring for academic, vocational, social, and life skills.
We are committed to preparing all of our youth for future success, developing their leadership skills, and to be both involved and invested in their communities. However, we do recognize the underserved in our community. Included are those that are not involved in sports, youth often labeled “at-risk,” as well as those that have wonderful parents and home lives, but out of necessity, parents work long or irregular hours to provide for their families, leaving the youth alone after school.
The youth that have come through our doors each day are wonderful, respectful, curious, energetic, and grateful to have a place they feel they truly belong. The youth are enjoying their experience, so much so that they are sharing it and are bringing more and more friends each day. On average, we see about 500 youth a month now, and our numbers grow every day. The number of youth visiting us increases to more than 60 students a day on the days we have enrichment planned, typically Tuesdays and Thursdays. Enrichment days are planned to meet The Wave’s vision. This is done by incorporating support and mentoring for academic, vocational, social, and life skills. As well as to promote mental health and community building.
Our growth has been so rapidly we are already designing a new building and working with developers. Nearly 50% of the homes in our community have children under the age of 18 in them. There is a high need, and the demographics of the community needs are also directly related to funding limitations. Our new space will take a step towards financial sustainability with additional space available to lease out and open a storefront developed by youth entrepreneurs and mentors to also raise revenue and serve as vocational training. This project is estimated to cost 5 million dollars.
Our organization has 4 out of the 5 board executive positions are occupied by females and day to day operations are also female-led.
We are seeking someone to research and find available grants that we qualify to apply for and then also contract someone to write grants.
