Introduction:
This project asks you to put yourself in the shoes of the Quality Manager for a small but ambitious manufacturing company that wish to grow their customer base. The company is 3D Home Printers (3D-HP), and their primary business is the manufacture of 3D printers for sale around the globe.
The company prides itself on a strong quality reputation, and this has been the basis of its organic growth to date. Some of CPT competitors do not have that same quality reputation and have had to do product recalls for the following failure modes:
• Poor surface finish of printed product
• Material does not bond together when printing
• Finished product is brittle and fractures
• Failure of drive motors which stops the printer
The Managing Director of 3D-HP has given you the challenge of creating a New Product Introduction process that will ensure any new 3D Printers that the company wishes to introduce to the marketplace grow its business as a minimum keep customer satisfaction at the current levels but preferably improve them.
Task:
• Discuss the importance of a good quality culture that involves leadership and critically evaluate the maturity of the organisation’s quality programme.
• Using Design for Six Sigma, develop a new process into the 3D-HP to solve their quality issues.
• A one-page graphical summary, develop a process flow diagram within the organisation to move the organisation towards Total Quality Management.
