In this report, the phenomenon of distractions in WM was examined, with the usage of an experiment which contained tasks with pictures of faces as the main mean of distractibility attempts. Since each image appeared during the WM task faced a different orientation, we specifically tested each participant’s reaction time (RT) and we analysed the number of correct and wrong answers depending on both stimulus (with distractor factors, without distractor factors). The research question that needed to be answered was “Are humans less able to stay on a task depending on the amount of smoke they consume?” and this was further investigated with the help of a smoking status and smoking states questionnaire. In our study, we gathered one hundred volunteers analyze their data and see if the hypothesis we initially made, that the group of smokers would perform worse in the WM task leading to a significant difference on the distraction scores between the participants (smokers vs non-smokers), were to meet.
The only help I need is on the Results section, on how to analyse my data using a 2x2 ANOVA with one between-subjects factor (smokers, non-smokers) and one with-in subjects factor (WM accuracy without distractors, WM accuracy with distractor). Finally, a correlational design was appropriate to answer the question on whether there is any relationship between smoking craving and WM distractibility.
