Aboriginal Australia - Essay and Professional Reflection
Budget: $10 – $30 AUD
Drawing on Modules 7-10, critically analyse at least two contemporary systemic issues impacting on Indigenous Australians which have been explored in this subject (e.g. Racism, Education, Employment, Law & Justice). As part of your analysis, discuss how an Aboriginal-led organisation or Aboriginal-centred event in Sydney works towards addressing the systemic issues you have identified.
You must choose the organisation or event from the list provided (see Resources for Task 3). How have Aboriginal people demonstrated their resilience and survival in responding to these issues? Finally, reflecting on your learning from this subject, how might you personally 'Be Brave Make Change' in your future profession to contribute to addressing the structural issues impacting on Aboriginal people?
Important: You must choose ONE of the nominated organisations or events from the list below; students are not permitted to write their essays on other organisations / events, as this will result in a Fail grade for this task. If you are focusing your essay on an event you are strongly encouraged to attend the event you are writing about in person where possible. Please note also that local Indigenous organisations do not have the capacity to respond to questions from the large number of students studying in this subject, so use publicly available information and publications (e.g. drawn from the organisation's website or other sources) when researching the work of your chosen organisation for this assessment. Please note that you will also need to use scholarly sources including subject readings when identifying and discussing the two systemic issues you have chosen to focus on.
