Perioperative Care Analysis

You may submit this assessment in either week 5 or week 9
Length: 2000 words +/- 10%
Weighting: 40%
The purpose of this assessment is to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to deliver individualised, evidence-based care to people within the perioperative setting.
You should base your care analysis on a person you have recently cared for during your clinical practice. Alternatively, you may wish to relate your answer to any of the people from the care scenarios covered in Themes 1 and 2, or later themes, depending on your submission week.
Discuss the most appropriate interventions with rationales and outcomes, referencing contemporary evidence. Include best practice guidelines and professional perioperative standards to demonstrate clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
Your care analysis should address the following points:
legal and ethical issues
nursing assessment specific to your role
non-technical skills, including communication
infection prevention and control measures
promoting a safe environment
Your work will be marked against the 283: Instrument/circulating nursing care analysis rubric.

The care analysis is constructed in a standard academic format using an introduction, background, case evaluation, proposed solutions or management plan, recommendations, and conclusion.
The content themes are organised logically, concept by concept, building a coherent position or argument.
There is a clear response to the critical discussion topics of the assessment, highlighting any ‘new’ knowledge, gaps in literature & implications for future perioperative nursing practice.

RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE
The student demonstrates an ability to link theory to practice by integrating research & evidence into the development of the analysis of care, cultivating ideas & supporting the content position. Perioperative nursing standards have been included.
