Summary
Juvenile Justice Advocates International is seeking committed, outgoing and passionate Development and Fundraising Coordinator/s to work with the Development Director and fundraising team to cultivate and retain donors in the Chicago region and expand JJAI’s programming in Latin America.
Organization Description: Juvenile Justice Advocates International is a nonprofit organization that believes that children in conflict with the law should be treated in developmentally appropriate ways and afforded all the rights and opportunities that we strive to provide to all children. We currently work in Mexico and Latin America with some of the most vulnerable and marginalized children. Our mission is to advocate for policy reforms in the juvenile justice system improving respect for human rights for the most vulnerable children. JJAI’s vision is that children should only be imprisoned as a last resort, in extreme circumstances and for the shortest period of time possible. We work towards this goal by:
Providing advice, consulting, capacity building, training and other services to governments and non-governmental organizations to improve the respect for human rights.
Conducting research on and advocate for increased access to justice for marginalized populations in the criminal justice system.
Assisting to implement reforms that reduce overuse of detention, improve prison conditions, improve and establish community reintegration programs and decrease delinquency among juveniles and other marginalized populations.
Position Description: The Regional Development Coordinator will work directly with the Director of Development, Executive Director and Fundraising Committee to develop and execute a development strategy in their region in order to maintain and grow financial support for our programs.
Specific job responsibilities include:
Develop and execute a regional fundraising plan.
Create and maintain a network of supporters, allies and donors in the region, including with individual donors, prospective donors, churches, universities, bar associations, community members, business leaders and political leaders in the region.
Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
Track contacts, donors and partners in our donor database.
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
Help to maintain and grow our database of individual donors.
Plan and manage our regional events and fundraisers.
Qualifications:
Must be located in the Chicago Metro Area
Professional proficiency/fluency in Spanish and English.
Cross-cultural competency, particularly in the United States and Latin America.
Extrovert who loves meeting new people, making connections and seeing others reach their full potential.
Excellent communications skills, able to communicate effectively and professionally.
Excited about helping vulnerable children around the world.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, video editing and photo editing a plus.
Ability to work independently.
Willing to travel and able to travel back and forth between the US and Mexico.
No previous fundraising experience required but it is a plus.
Not required but a plus:
Experience with individual donor campaigns and management.
Experience developing fundraising plans for new or small nonprofit organizations.
Experience in grant writing.
Experience acquiring new institutional funders for small organizations.
Past sales experience.
Experience planning events.
Part time (10-20 hours per week).
Weekly schedules and hours are flexible, able to work around other job or school commitments.
Compensation: Chicago $18-21 per hour
Start date: December 1, 2022 or earliest possible date.
