Innovation project -- 2
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Project #1 (Design Thinking in Practice) Summary: In preparation to start this project, please watch "Extreme By Design," a great video on how students have applied the design thinking method to build incredible solutions to problems in the developing world. Assignment: For this project, pick a problem to solve in an organization you know (for example, your college campus, a company your parents have worked for, or a volunteer organization). Use the design thinking skills that you learned to identify a specific pain point for customers/clients, employees, or both. Conduct interviews, create a journey map, generate a how might we question, and come up with at least three possible solutions. Please include short summaries of your interviews with your project. Successful projects will clearly demonstrate: 1. Applying the design thinking process throughout 2. Risk taking at every stage of the project (e.g. nature of problem explored, who is interviewed, ideas carried forward, approach to the presentation, etc.) 3. Carrying forward multiple insights and ideas. 4. Showing where you have learned from feedback and how it has affected your solution. 5. Conducting interviews that reveal needs 6. A journey map that reflects what was learned in the interview and yields new insights 7. A How Might We question that reflects a need identified in the interview, perhaps something revealed in the journey map (something that wouldn't have been obvious prior to interviewing) 8. At least 3 possible solutions that emerge from brainstorming (idea generation) that could be explored/prototyped. 9. One prototype of your winning idea. 10. A clear, compelling, and engaging presentation/pitch Deliverables: REPORT: 2 page report on the findings including a clear design of the prototype and interviews conducted uploaded by EVERY TEAM member to Moodle and one hard copy to be submitted on the presentation day. Video: a 2 minute video (not presentation) showcasing the design thinking process followed and summarizing the above in a documentary style (similar to extreme by design video). The video should be uploaded to YouTube and the video link must be submitted to Moodle as well using the assigned link.
