Looking for Experienced 3D Technical Artist
Budget: $50 – $0 USD
KinoTek is looking for an experienced 3D technical artist for a 1-month project to assist in animating a 3D anatomical model using motion capture data from an Azure Kinect device. You will work alongside a team of developers for this project and must have experience with Babylon.js, rigging and motion capture animation.

About Us:
KinoTek is a venture-backed, movement analysis platform that provides physical therapists with quantitative movement data and 3D movement visualizations to assist them in improving documentation and communication when it comes to their clients. KinoTek uses the Azure Kinect, a 3D LiDAR based camera, to collect spatial data of an individual’s movement. Our technology then processes this data into biomechanical insights and 3D movement visualizations in a browser-based application.
While we are venture backed, we are a small, driven team that would be excited to work with and learn from an experienced 3D technical artist to help us accomplish this project.
What We are Looking For:
KinoTek’s current 3D anatomical visualizations are built using Unity3D targeting WebGL and embedded into a React (Next.js) project. The implementation currently has the following limitations:
- Low fidelity (and male only) 3d anatomical model
- Low quality animation from some motion capture data
- Shaky in some situations
- Poor representation shoulder movement
- Poor representation of ankle movement
- Poor representation of occluded body parts
- Poor performance of Unity3D in the web browser
To improve the 3D anatomical visualization, we are looking to replace our current low fidelity model with a higher fidelity male and female model. We anticipate that this may require some rig modifications (or perhaps data transformations).
Additionally, we are looking for assistance from an expert who can help us optimize and smooth the motion capture data that we are using to animate the 3D model to combat the aforementioned shakiness as well as shoulder and ankle issues.
While we are doing these upgrades, it also seems to be an optimal time to migrate from our current Unity3D implementation to a Babylon.js implementation which we expect to be much more performant in the browser. This initiative will include general design of the avatar and 3D environment as well as integration with the rest of the application. This includes, but is not limited to assistance designing:
- Visualizer’s floor, background, and lighting
- 3D model head and face
- Integration Needs
- Babylon.js
- Use Typescript
- 3D Model Management
- Depending on the performance of the 3D models (file size, etc.) it must be determined if an external management system such as a CDN must be used to host the resources.
- The user must have the option to select either the male or the female model as this information is not stored in the application currently.
- Exposed functionality
- Application must have access to what frame the visualizer is on to sync with other features
- Ability to set male or female model via code instead of UI
- UI navigation
- “Snap to plane” UI to rotate camera by 90 degrees
- Zoom in / zoom out UI
- Rotate camera angle
