Custom CoCr Head Ring Design
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I am seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer or high-end Product Designer with experience in precision miniature mechanisms. The project is a 2-part modular ring system consisting of a permanent band and swappable heads, intended for fabrication in Cobalt-Chrome (CoCr).
Overview:
This is not a traditional jewelry design project. The main challenge is developing a small, high-tolerance mechanical interface suitable for daily wear.
Band: permanent structural chassis with a standardized attachment geometry
Heads: interchangeable modules that lock into the band securely, with no perceptible play in normal use and a clear, positive seating/click
Stones: each head will house a beer-glass stone; the setting must allow cold replacement/service by a jeweler without damaging the modular interface
Technical Constraints
Manufacturing path: optimized for DMLS / SLM metal 3D printing, followed by post-machining and polishing
Material: CoCr, so the design must account for high hardness, low ductility, and limited ability to adjust parts manually after fabrication
Locking system: open to proposals, but it must be secure in wear and operable by the user without specialized tools (nothing more than what a women would carry on her purse or have in a nightstand).
Deliverables:
- concept for assembly and locking logic
- production-ready STEP / IGES files
- technical drawings with recommended clearances and tolerances
- design suitable for fabrication and finishing in CoCr
