Project Description:

I am looking for a qualified geologist, GIS analyst, or remote sensing specialist to conduct a comprehensive desk-based study for a gas pipeline route in the Broadway area, UK. The project involves geological, hydrological, terrain, and land use analysis, along with detailed mapping and documentation. The outcome will inform fieldwork and final reporting.

Scope of Work

Geological and Geomorphological Analysis

Identify and map faults, rock formations, and soil types

Analyze and map rotational landslides, mudslides, cambering, and gulls

Use aerial imagery, LiDAR, DEMs, and geological datasets

Develop a conceptual site model highlighting terrain behavior

Hydrology and Hydrogeology

Map spring lines, surface water features, drainage patterns, and groundwater flow

Assess groundwater vulnerability, aquifer properties, and water quality factors

Analyze river flow dynamics, recharge behavior, and hydrological risk zones

Terrain and Hazard Risk Assessment

Identify slope instability, erosion zones, mass movement areas

Evaluate terrain-related risks to pipeline construction

Propose initial mitigation strategies based on terrain classification

Land Use Analysis (Historic and Present)

Use historical maps to analyze past land use: agriculture, quarrying, woodlands

Map current land use: arable farming, grazing, active quarries

Identify land use changes and their environmental impacts (e.g., fertilizer use)

Mapping Requirements

The following maps must be produced in high resolution:

Geological map

Superficial geology map

Hydrogeological and hydrology map

Terrain hazard/risk map

Land use maps (historical and present)

Pipeline route alternatives with terrain constraints

Each map must include:

Projection and coordinate reference system (CRS) used

Scale bar, north arrow, legend, and clearly labeled features

Data sources, acquisition date, and metadata

Deliver maps in:

Word format for reporting

Editable formats (e.g., QGIS, Surfer, ArcGIS, TIFF, GRD, etc.)

Final Deliverables

All maps in Word and editable formats

All raw spatial datasets used (or download links if too large)

A technical summary report (approx. 3–5 pages) covering:

Methods used

Data sources

Risk assessment summary

Key findings and recommendations

Justification for suggested pipeline routes

Note: All outputs will be used in an academic report, so clarity and completeness are essential.
