The Blue-Collar Employee Recruiter is responsible for sourcing, attracting, and hiring qualified blue-collar workers for a variety of roles, including manual labor, trades, construction, manufacturing, warehousing, and other skilled or unskilled labor positions. This role involves working closely with hiring managers, understanding the specific needs of the company, and utilizing effective recruitment strategies to build a strong workforce of blue-collar employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing and Recruitment:
Identify and source candidates through job boards, social media, recruitment agencies, community outreach, and networking.
Build relationships with local job centers, trade schools, vocational training centers, and community organizations to tap into a diverse pool of candidates.
Use direct sourcing techniques, including cold-calling, job fairs, and attending industry events, to find potential candidates.
Post job advertisements on relevant platforms and track responses.
Screening and Interviewing:
Review resumes and applications to determine candidate qualifications for open positions.
Conduct initial phone screens and in-person interviews to assess candidates’ experience, skills, and overall fit for the position.
Administer skills testing and assessments as required for specific roles (e.g., forklift operation, welding, electrical skills).
Verify candidate background, including employment history, certifications, and references.
Job Matching:
Match qualified candidates with available positions based on their skills, qualifications, and experience.
Work with hiring managers to ensure that job requirements are met and that the candidates’ expectations align with company needs.
Onboarding and Orientation:
Coordinate with HR to ensure a smooth onboarding process, including facilitating background checks, drug testing, and the completion of necessary paperwork.
Organize orientation sessions for new employees, ensuring they understand company policies, safety regulations, and job expectations.
Ensure compliance with legal and industry-specific safety standards for each role.
Candidate Relationship Management:
Maintain strong relationships with candidates throughout the hiring process, providing updates and feedback.
Foster a positive candidate experience by addressing concerns and questions promptly.
Maintain a network of past candidates and reach out to them for future opportunities.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Keep accurate records of candidate interactions, interviews, and hiring outcomes in the applicant tracking system (ATS).
Provide regular reports on recruitment activities, including metrics like time-to-hire, candidate quality, and source of hire.
Assist with labor market analysis and trends to ensure competitive compensation and benefit offerings.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with department heads and hiring managers to understand staffing needs and priorities.
Act as a liaison between the company and labor unions (if applicable).
Stay informed on labor market trends, industry standards, and competitor hiring practices.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure recruitment practices comply with local, state, and federal labor laws and regulations.
Ensure candidates meet safety requirements and are provided with adequate training for high-risk or specialized jobs.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in recruitment, specifically in blue-collar, industrial, or manufacturing sectors.
Knowledge of recruitment tools, job boards, and social media platforms for sourcing candidates.
Familiarity with blue-collar job requirements, certifications, and safety regulations.
Strong interviewing skills and ability to assess technical and practical skill sets.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with candidates and hiring managers.
Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple hiring processes simultaneously.
Ability to work under pressure and meet hiring deadlines.
High school diploma required; Associate’s degree or certification in Human Resources or a related field is a plus.
Experience using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and HR software.
Basic knowledge of labor laws and safety regulations related to blue-collar work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a high-volume recruitment environment.
Bilingual (especially Spanish) a plus for reaching diverse candidate pools.
Knowledge of unionized labor environments is an advantage.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position, with typical office hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Some flexibility in hours may be required based on hiring needs or job fairs.
Occasional travel to job sites or community events may be required.
May require physical activity such as standing, walking, and carrying materials during job fairs or recruitment events.
