React.js Developer with Rive.app Animation API Experience

Job ID: 38465594

Budget: $8 – $15 USD

We are in search of a very strong React developer who is fundamentally an expert in: Next.js, Vite, TailwindCSS, TypeScript and the implementation of APIs. Starting with a fresh and super clean scaffolded project, you will be charged with creating several functional components that target specific needs with the Rive Animation Platform (https://rive.app/). Accordingly, you should be able to quickly become familiar with Rive (it's free, if you don't have a license).

You will be first charged with creating a basic project that interacts using what they call the "Rive Low-Level API" in which you will be expected to setup fresh scaffolding and create an Audio Controller that will be able to communicate with .RIV (published RIV animation files) via their API and manage various audio related events such as playing audio on a looping basis, managing state to toggle audio off/on and similar basic functions. You will need to manage state between the RIV animation file and React and essentially promote 2-way communications for handling audio events (which are very limited in their software currently).

In addition, we have a complex series of Artboards and Nested Artboards that make up several of our projects and will need additional management of State in order to manage several complex navigation animations. Again, all of this will need to be coordinated with the Rive APIs.

You should be comfortable working at a reasonable hourly rate and be fully confident in your Javascript (or more specifically Typescript) abilities and knowledge of Next.js / React. All work is performed using GitHub (properly! - meaning frequent small commits and very actively as well). Also, project communications with our company are on Slack so you should have confidence working with this type of environment.

Understanding the basics of Animation and quickly familiarizing yourself with Rive will be key to making this project work. Obviously, we will be favoring individuals who have used Rive previously and/or are particularly strong in Vector 2D animations (like older Adobe Flash). Rive does not currently have a scripting language, so to do many of the advanced things that we need to do, the Low-Level API and React are the best options for our company.

You should ideally be a person that does not need a ton of direction and of course, willing to learn quickly and use all of the documentation and the Rive GitHub repos (which have several examples).

This is a grassroots project, and I need someone that can quickly jump on this and work with me to get several features ironed out. You should write CLEAN and well documented code, as some of the projects will need to be repurposed and made ready for general community availability. For example, we may create a very simple stand-alone audio controller and release that to the community, along with other projects that you work on.

WE WILL BE SELECTING 3-5 DEVS FOR A SMALL PROJECT THAT WILL BE BUDGETED AT ABOUT 8 HOURS OF WORK INITIALLY... SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL BE GIVEN STEADY WORK OF UP TO 50+ MORE PROJECTS THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR....

BEFORE BIDDING...
1. Please review https://rive.app/ and be sure to explore their documentation and github repos.
2. Please take a look at the materials included and let me know if you believe there's any problem completing it in under 8 hours. We have a link to a Google Document that will provide you with the requirements for the first test project.....In addition, I have a scaffolded Vite + React setup (that you will need to do an "npm install" on) and the RIV (rive movie file) along with a REV (rive backup file that can be restored). Rive has a free version that should be sufficient for this project, so go and setup an account.
The rest of the project is well described at this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11jaO-HPbSn0B2LObmdd5vEyBxUkpv8zJA4WqUnU50Ds/edit?usp=sharing
3. Review the Scaffolding VITE + REACT + TAILWIND attached
4. Review the Very SIMPLE project files that are the Test Files to do this project attached
5. Respond to your bid with your interest and the phrase "Boo Berry" to indicate that you have read and reviewed everything in this.

SEND ME ANY QUESTIONS!

HAPPY BIDDING!!!
