React Chess Game Enhancements

Job ID: 39961367

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I have a fully-functional chess app built with React.js that already sports a clean, modern UI, an interactive board, move-verification logic, and both AI and human-versus-human play. It runs, but a handful of rough edges keep it from feeling truly solid—occasional input glitches on the board, edge-case move validation problems, and styling quirks that only surface on smaller screens.

Your task is to dive into the existing codebase, isolate the pain points, and ship a smoother, bug-free experience that works just as well on a phone as it does on a desktop monitor. The project is structured with hooks, functional components, and a minimal state-management layer, so familiarity with modern React patterns (useEffect, Context, custom hooks) is essential. If you’re comfortable profiling and optimising complex component trees, you’ll feel right at home.

I’ll share a private Git repository and a concise issue list as soon as we start. Feel free to suggest smarter architectural tweaks if you spot them—clean, maintainable code is a top priority.

Deliverables:
• Refactored interactive chessboard that captures all user input reliably
• Robust move-verification logic covering regular and special moves
• Fully responsive layout with consistent styling across breakpoints
• Clear, well-commented commits and a brief hand-over note summarising changes

If you can showcase similar React game work or chess-related projects, all the better. Looking forward to collaborating!
