React Backgammon Game Fix

Job ID: 39551069

Budget: £250 – £750 GBP

I'm building a multiplayer backgammon game using React and hosting it on Replit. The basics are working, but I’ve hit a wall. I need a developer who actually understands how backgammon works — not just React — to fix and complete the game.

Here’s what’s wrong and needs fixing:

Drag-and-drop is broken: Checkers don’t follow the mouse properly, and hitboxes are off.

Dice logic is limited: Moves must support both dice combinations (e.g. 6–2 or 2–6). Clicking a checker should auto-move it the correct number of pips if legal.

Auto point making: If a point can be made from a roll (like 6–1 from point 7), it should automatically build the point on click.

Turn logic: No undo. Clicking greyed-out used dice should end the turn.

Bot is not playing: GNUBG is integrated but doesn’t make moves.

No animation: Checker movement is instant and rough — it needs proper animated movement.

General rule enforcement: Moves need to follow real backgammon rules, bar handling, bearing off, doubles, hits, etc.

The project has a GNUBG CLI integration already working in the backend. You should be comfortable working with GNUBG or backgammon logic generally.

Tech stack:

React (frontend)

TypeScript

Node.js backend

GNUBG (bot + validator)

What I need from you:

Fix the above issues properly

Clean, scalable code

Clear explanations of what you changed and why

A working, playable game by the end

Important:
If you don’t know how backgammon works, please don’t apply. I need someone who understands the game rules — not just a frontend dev guessing move logic.
