Our goal is to enhance a chatbot project by integrating a Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature. This will enable the chatbot, already functional with text responses and hosted on GitHub (https://github.com/vercel/ai-chatbot) using Next.js, to also provide audio responses. We aim to utilize OpenAI's TTS technology, as detailed in their documentation (https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/text-to-speech), to achieve real-time audio streaming of the chatbot's responses.
The project is structured around three main components:
• Route.ts: Manages the chatbot's text interactions and response streaming (backend).
• tts.ts: A custom function for TTS (backend), currently operational with static text input. The challenge lies in dynamically generating audio responses from chat interactions.
• chats.tsx: Facilitates the user interface for chat interactions (frontend).
The ultimate goal is seamless integration of the TTS feature to provide immediate audio alongside text responses, enhancing the user experience. This technology will particularly benefit students practicing foreign languages by interacting with the chatbot.
