Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W Camera System — Power Board + Recording Software (Budget max $600)
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m building a small sports POV camera system (VisionCam V1) using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W + Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 Wide (IMX708). I need (A) a simple power/charging board design and (B) a reliable recording service/software for the Pi.
Important: My total budget is $600 max for the full scope. Please do not apply if your quote will exceed $600.
⸻
A) Power / Charging Board (Pi Zero 2 W)
Goal: Stable power + safe charging for a LiPo, designed for a compact wearable camera.
Requirements:
• LiPo charging via pogo-pin contacts (no open USB charging port preferred)
• Power-path / load sharing so the device can stay on while docked/charging (no reboot)
• Stable 5V output to Pi Zero 2 W (with enough current margin)
• Battery protection features (basic protection/ESD as needed)
• Support for a power button behavior (hold-to-power-on / hold-to-shutdown is ideal)
• Provide battery status reporting method (fuel gauge or voltage reporting approach)
Deliverables (hardware):
• Schematic + PCB layout files (KiCad preferred, but state your tool)
• BOM with part numbers + links
• Gerbers + assembly notes
• Quick bring-up/testing checklist
⸻
B) Pi Recording Service / Software (Linux)
Goal: A reliable “camera recorder” service that runs on boot and is controlled by a simple local API.
Requirements:
• Continuous session-based recording (practice/game) saved as a session folder
• Recording uses segmented files (recommended 2–3 minutes per segment) but presented as one session
• Hold-to-stop requirement on the app/UI side (software should support safe stop/finalize)
• Local HTTP API endpoints such as:
• /status (battery/temp/storage/recording state)
• /start_session
• /stop_session (finalize safely)
• /list_sessions
• /download_session
• /verify_offload (checksum/size verification)
• /delete_session (only after verify)
• Must be stable: auto-restart on crash, logs, and protection against corrupted files
• Store to 256GB microSD (permanently installed)
Deliverables (software):
• Source code repo + install script
• Systemd service files + documentation
• Basic test plan (recording stability, safe stop, low storage behavior)
⸻
What I will provide
• The full feature notes/workflow and constraints
• Hardware context (Pi Zero 2 W + IMX708 Wide, pogo-pin charging preference)
• Any additional packaging constraints if needed
⸻
To apply, please answer:
1. What’s your fixed price within the $600 max budget, and what do you include?
2. Estimated timeline to deliver hardware files + working recording service?
3. Examples of similar work (Pi, embedded Linux, battery/charging PCB).
