OpenWrt Setup Script for Raspberry Pi
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
Project Request (Public Posting Version)
Automated OpenWrt Setup Script for Raspberry Pi 4 (Private Home Router)
Description:
I am looking for an experienced Linux/OpenWrt developer to create a comprehensive shell script that automates the full setup and configuration of an OpenWrt-based router (Raspberry Pi 4).
The script should:
- Automate system updates, package installations, network/DHCP/firewall setup, VLANs, WiFi SSIDs, and security hardening.
- Include user input prompts (network values, usernames, passwords) with sensible defaults.
- Be well-documented with inline comments, ensuring reproducibility and transparency.
- Support integration of security features (e.g. hardening parameters, traffic rules, encrypted DNS, VPN).
Goal:
A reproducible, secure, and maintainable setup that can serve as a reliable baseline configuration for the device — more than just a simple first-time setup.
Context:
- Although the configuration is technically advanced, this project is for a private home router and commissioned by a private individual. The intention is to achieve a professional-grade setup for personal use, not for a corporate environment.
Hardware environment:
Raspberry Pi 4 with OpenWrt (already flashed), additional USB-Ethernet adapter, and VLAN-capable switch.
Deliverables:
- Fully working shell script with parameterized configuration.
- Clear documentation of the approach and structure.
- Maintainable design so new VLANs, firewall rules, or services can be added easily in the future.
